Community Forum

The Eraring Energy Community Forum is focused on Eraring Power Station and the surrounding community of Lake Macquarie, New South Wales.

The Community Forum was formed in late 2002, with the inaugural meeting held on 12th December 2002.

Members of the Community Forum include representatives of local community groups such as Coal Point Progress Association, Dora Creek Catchment Group, Eraring Resident’s Association, URGE of Lake Macquarie, the Royal Volunteer Coast Patrol, Southlake Community Alliance, Native Animal Trust Fund, Hunter Bird Observers Club, local Landcare Groups, and various Fishing Group’s and Associations. Other members include representatives of State and Local Government, such as Lake Macquarie City Council, Department of Sport & Recreation, and NSW Fisheries.

The Terms of Reference of the Community Forum are to:

• Inform the community of environmental issues associated with the Power Station
• Encourage discussion with community representatives; and
• Enable Participants to:
• Interact with senior management and the station environment team
• Gain an understanding of Eraring Energy’s environmental management systems
• Raise issues and seek clarification relating to matters of concern

The format and functionality of the Community Forum is under review with the Environmental Strategy Meeting held in lieu of the February, 2009 Community Forum.

In conjunction with the Eraring Energy Community Forum, the Southlake Landcare Group participated in a rejuvenation and planting project in park land owned by Eraring Energy at Dora Creek, NSW.
