Completed in 1959, Warragamba has one unit of 50MW capacity and its output is transmitted over a 132kV transmission line to Penrith Substation.

The station was built as part of an earlier Water Board scheme to increase water supplies to Sydney, but is now disconnected from the electricity grid.
